On July 1, 2013, I began my first day in the Sony New York office and unbeknownst to me, I would meet the love of my life on that very day. I had just recently moved from LA to NY with a good friend from high school and promised my family I would only be moving for "one year and would not fall in love." Fortunately for me, both of those statements were wrong.
Doug and I both worked on the Television Research team consisting of seven people, including ourselves. Knowing I was new to the city Doug and his friends were extremely welcoming and tons of fun, so I always accepted invitations to hangout with them. What started as a great friendship, was becoming something more, even though we had both been advised not to date a coworker from two different people. On November 17th, Doug and I went out on our first official date. We shared a night full of laughs at the Comedy Cellar and things already felt so natural between us. In January (after a few months of Doug reading the Sony Employee Handbook to ensure there was no issue with us dating) I was finally able to post a photo on Instagram and make it "official." From that moment on, our relationship only strengthened and we both knew we had found something special in each other.
Fast forward 4 years later (almost to the day) to June 30, 2017 when Doug proposed! As with most summers together, we would take a weekend trip (or in this case 4th of July trip) down to Sea Isle City, NJ, where I have been going my entire life. Doug and I LOVE the shore and we would try to go as often as possible - my family even calls us "townies." As I typically do, I suggested we go down to watch the sunset thinking it was just a normal night filled with the sunset, wine and a multitude of photos. Doug reached in his backpack to take out the bottle (or so I thought) and next thing I know he is down on one knee with a little box! Doug told me how much he loved me and asked me to marry him. I, overcome with so much emotion, got down on my knees to hug and kiss him and just could not let go while crying the happiest of tears! I was truly the happiest girl in the world that night and still have not stopped smiling. I finally find my one, the most genuine, kindhearted, fun-loving guy in the world!
Doug and I shared so many incredible memories for 4 years in New York together. We rented our first apartment together on the Upper East Side, ate incredible meals, saw a few concerts and awesome Broadway shows, explored Central Park (and have lots of fall photos to prove it), attended hilarious comedy shows, and most importunately fell so deeply in love with each other. Now in Los Angeles, we could not be more excited to begin this next chapter of our lives!
